Richard Van Buskirk, DO, PhD, FAAO has been in private medical practice in Sarasota, Florida for 34 years. His primary practice focus has been diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, diseases, and dysfunctions. He is Board Certified in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and in Family Medicine. Before becoming a student of osteopathic medicine at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine he was an Associate Professor in Physiology and Neuroscience with a PhD from Duke University. He rediscovered and redeveloped one of the primary osteopathic musculoskeletal manipulative methods, the Still Technique. His first book, The Still Technique Manual has been published through two editions and has been translated and published in Japanese and French. It is currently being translated for publication in German and Italian. It is in use at osteopathic medical schools throughout the United States as well as internationally. He has also published book chapters in each of the four editions of the premier textbook of Osteopathic medicine Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine, and in other scholarly books. He has also published numerous articles in reviewed medical and scientific journals and has given lectures and courses at professional conferences and at a number of osteopathic medical schools in North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan.

The book includes analysis of this unique manual medicine approach that was first discovered, taught and used over 140 years ago by the founding father of osteopathic medicine, Dr. Andrew Taylor Still. The book also includes a multi-systems model of musculoskeletal restriction and somatic dysfunction. Finally, it has 11 chapters detailing applications of the technique to the whole body. It is being republished with some corrections and inclusion of some material that was added to the French and Italian translations but were not present in the original Second Edition.
